Easy Safari Party Foods!

Sunday, November 30, 2014

I actually really want to be a party planner when I "grow up," so I had a ton of fun throwing my sister's baby shower. Since she's making her baby's nursery Lion King themed, I thought a safari shower would be super cute and fun!

Rainy Days

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

My first "fashion photography" post on the blog - woohoo! Today is another gross, rainy day in "sunny" Florida, so I opted for something simple - with a bright pink lipstick to add a major pop!

15 Minute Fried Rice

I. Love. Asian. Food. No, like, you don't understand. I would eat take out every day if that wouldn't mean very, very bad things for my waistline and my wallet.

Best Boots For Winter

Saturday, November 22, 2014

Winter is coming and that means its boot season! If you're looking for some serious warmth, my favorite brand is SOREL, bar none. As their website says: "SOREL combines felt, wool, premium leather, and flawless construction with people who aren’t afraid to get their boots dirty." I tried these one winter in Syracuse, NY, and they were a life saver.

Next up is the L.L. Bean Bean Boot. They're an American icon for a reason, and if you want a testament to their quality - they've been in business for over 100 years. You don't last that long without being really, really good at what you do.

As a Florida girl, I love my Sperry Topsiders. Their boat shoes are perfect for a casual day on campus, or running errands. But Sperry also has a great collection of cute boots, ranging from style-driven to rain boots, to boots for some serious weather conditions. They do a great job of combining fashion with functionality.

Hunter Boots are one of those things that will be on my wish list forever. They are the most "in" rain boots of the year. Coming in a range of colors, from neutrals to neons, Hunters are a great way to make a statement on a rainy day. Grab the classic red ones and add a pop to any jeans and t-shirt style.

Last, but certainly not least - Tory Burch makes a killer pair of riding boots, as well as some oh-so-stylish booties. While not exactly something I would go traipsing through the mud or snow in these, they sure are purty. Prepare your self for sticker shock though - the prices are killer too.

And there you have it - my list of the top 5 Boot Brands for this Holiday Season. Happy shopping, everyone!

Thirsty Thursday: 5 Ingredient Raspberry Mojito

Thursday, November 20, 2014

This baby is the perfect pick-me-up after a long day at work - and it is so easy to make! I was always kind of intimidated by mojitos...until I realized how simple they are! I like making them by the pitcher for parties, but if it's just you, just use a shot glass to measure the vodka.

Traveling is easily my favorite thing to do. I love going to new places and trying new things. Last week, a went on a 2,200 mile road trip which was very new for me. I drove from Tampa, to Jacksonville, to Atlanta, Charlotte, Asheville, Nashville, and then Birmingham before returning home. By myself.

3 Easy Steps to a Cute Safari Mason Jar!

Sunday, November 16, 2014

My big sister is nearly 6 months pregnant with her first child, and I am so excited to meet baby Aiden! I'm throwing her baby shower in two weeks, a Lion King themed party to match his nursery. First order of crafting business? Safari mason jars as drinking glasses!

These were actually so easy to make! You will need: a pack of mason jars, animal print ribbon (I used 1.5" ribbon), a hot glue gun, and jute. Everything is available at a crafts store like Michael's, but the mason jars are about half the price at Target or Wal-Mart.

All you have to do is wrap the ribbon around and hot glue it. I hot glued one end to the jar itself, then cut the ribbon long enough so the ends overlapped a little. I glued the other end to the ribbon where it was overlapping.

My hot glue gun was taking a looooong time to heat up, so I cut all the ribbon to length while I waited.

This turned out to be so much easier because I didn't have to measure the ribbon against the mason jar and cut each time. I made 8 jars with the zebra print ribbon and it took me just under 3 yards. After the ribbon is glued on, wrap a piece of jute around the jar and tie it into a knot. So simple! And you can use any ribbon you like! I used zebra print, cheetah print, and plain burlap.

There you have it! 3 easy steps to a Safari mason jar! Let me know in the comments how you customize this craft for your own parties!

About Me

Friday, November 14, 2014

Hello, blog-o-sphere!

My name is Susie; I'm a Florida girl through and through (any temperature below 70 is unacceptable). I really have no business starting a blog, but I like pretty clothes, and pretty houses, and pretty weddings. My idols are Audrey Hepburn and Martha Stewart. I work at a private school in Tampa, Florida, but I love to plan parties and events -- the busier I am on any given day, the better!

Welcome to my crazy, messy, silly world -- I hope you enjoy the ride!
