Inbioparque in San Jose, Costa Rica

Our first day of the trip was mostly traveling. We got to the airport at 5am, and were in San Jose around 1pm. They were giving out free shots of Jameson at the airport, which seemed like a pretty good start to Spring Break to me. We exchanged our dollars into the Costa Rican currency, colones, and bought some empanadas for about 800 colones each (only about $1.25 but it certainly felt like a lot more when I handed over 5,000!).

Our first meal in Costa Rica! I ordered completely in Spanish!

I loved all the greenery in Costa Rica!

Just hangin' out!

Wildlife in Costa Rica is simply abundant, and I loved seeing the variety of animals at Inbioparque, a federally funded research reserve, our first stop in Costa Rica. Costa Rica has a country-wide commitment to their environment, which is evident in all they do. It's so inspiring.

Excuse all the chins and focus on the daddy longlegs crawly on me! I could feel it for hours after we left!

Mommy and baby three-toed sloths!

After Inbioparque, we journeyed to Volcano Paos, a volcano with a mile-wide crater. Unfortunately, the volcano was covered in fog. We literally couldn't see anything. But we did get some pics of the Costa Rican scenery!

Thanks for the great pic, Trev!

We paused by this gorgeous waterfall for a few pictures. (Thanks, Trev, for waking me up. I was fast asleep on the bus!)

Trying to look happy, but the water was so cold!

Can you spot the monkeys?

Selfies galore!

After a long day of driving, we arrived at La Fortuna, a small town at the base of one of the world's most active volcanoes, Volcan Arenal.

We also went out to a discotheque, and danced into the wee hours of the night! (Just kidding, we gave up by ten pm). The next day we hiked down to a waterfall! More on that in the next post!
